Name: Sophie Onik
Nickname: N/A
Age: 16
Class at Academy: Moderate
Gender: Female
Appearance: Long lashes frame pale green eyes like the color of leaves. Straight brown hair dips down to mid-back, highlights of pale red surrounding her face. Skin is tanned from the time that she spends out in the sun with her Pokémon, lucky for her that she doesn't burn easily! She's a little slip of a thing; being somewhere around 5'3" often gets her mistaken as younger than she is.
Being a lover of Grass types Sophie dresses close to hues of Nature, greens, soft blues and yellows as well as the occasional chocolate brown. Tank tops often depict tropical flowers in full bloom, though at times they picture her favorite Pokémon. Leather sandals adorn her feet, a rich hue of brown. Fresh flowers are sometimes placed behind her ears as her own form of jewelry, grown from the pots she decorates her room with.
Personality: Sunshine is her medium, her symbol of sorts. She tries to remain cheerful and positive through any situation, as well as keeping the spirit up of those around her. The optimist, she doesn’t let harsh words stop her on her trek, letting them be criticisms but not the final word. While she remains friendly to everyone she meets, she sometimes forces her presence on those who may not want it even if she doesn’t realize it right away. Always on a quest of self-improvement, she usually has a notebook on hand to jot down notes on this and that, a quote she heard, or a new recipe to try. She doesn’t really have a temper, instead if she gets hurt that bad she just goes straight to tears. In those times she’ll usually mask her pain until she’s alone, a stubborn streak preventing her from showing her injury.
History: The youngest of three children, Sophie and her family lived above the café they owned in Celadon City, Kanto. The Golden Bellsprout, as it was called, catered towards the trainers that would blow through the city with the wide range of pokefood her father would cook up. Her mother was a former gym trainer at the Celadon Gym, though now she and her team used their abilities to keep the café in perfect “green” condition.
Sophie grew closest to her older sister Rhin, the single year of age difference helping as their brother Trent was five years older and spent most of his time away from the house. While he went off to try and complete the Kanto Gym Challenge, the girls were content to stay in Celadon and work at the café. Sophie never thought about leaving home, content to become a chef like her dad. Then her Aunt Zoe came for a visit.
Aunt Zoe was her mom’s youngest sister. Even though she was probably nearing her 40s she still liked to dress like…she wasn’t. She’d lived all over the world, been married twice, and even completed the Jhoto Gym Challenge but lost against the Elite 4. Nowadays she was a teacher on the Coordinator circuit, she had quite a few students and was on her way to one in Saffron City after her visit. Their Aunt’s tales, as well as the playful bickering between the two sisters, entranced both Rhin and Sophie. They were even able to witness a battle between the two trainers, as well as one of Zoe’s more famous routines. After her aunt left, the young girl couldn’t get the fantasy out of her mind, she wanted all of these “luxuries” her Aunt seemed to possess.
Within a year she was enrolled at Sigma Academy, ready to learn what she needed to become this ideal Sophie she envisioned. A few months into the second half of the semester she was in her battling class when things got hairy. Two students were in a practice battle; one using a Charmander while the other had a Marill. They were supposed to be using Normal type attacks only but about 20 minutes into it the lizard was able to get a strong slash attack in and it scared the Marill terribly. It shot out a few rapid fire Water Guns that soaked the Charmander, almost putting out his tail. The students watched in shock as their teacher and his Persian jumped in, quickly getting the fire lizard some super potions before rushing him off to the infirmary. The experience left her shocked, not to mention made her realize that she hadn’t been thinking of her Pokémons’ health or feelings but only herself. In her race to become this person who was so grand and worldly she was leaving her potential partners in the dust. She spent the rest of the semester putting her fantasies aside and focusing on making her and her team the best they could. Over the break she even began to look at the medical side of training, using her cooking background to try her hand at poffins and pokeblocks. She returns this year hoping to make an even better breakthrough.
