Appearance: Stands at 5'8". Carter has gray eyes and dark brown, almost black hair which juts up at random places, parted left. He has a rather lean build, and regularly wears an unbuttoned black, school uniform-like outfit with a black short-sleeved T-shirt beneath it, and matching black pants. Sometimes ditches the jacket for more comfort. Wears white sneakers with white trimming. Keeps his pokeballs with him almost all the time in prospect that battles can occur everywhere in any chances, especially if he wants them. The bandage on his nose is worn for practically no purpose, except for "it makes people recognize me easier."
Personality: Carter has a fun-loving, upbeat persona. A social party guy who likes pleasant situations where everyone gets along, he tries to achieve said atmosphere wherever he is with an ever cheery, optimistic attitude. Enjoys both cracking and listening to jokes, and finds almost anything amusing, like the simplest of things and sometimes even things that are not meant to be laughed at.
The guy is also a huge fan of competition, and when a Pokemon battle is not possible or desired sometimes chooses sports, specifically basketball, as an arena to show his superiority. Although not the tallest or the most well-built, he is proud of his quick reflexes and running. He's also a quick learner with an ability to instantly assess a situation and make decisions accordingly.
Carter is often bold and risk-taking although he knows the full risk behind his actions; a daring individual who loves new things and challenge-- especially if it proves himself in one way or another.
History: Born as the youngest of four siblings, Carter easily finds himself fighting for his busy parents' attention on a daily basis with said siblings. The kids constantly try to find something to excel the others in one way or another; in studies, sports, obedience or otherwise, and unspoken competitions and comparisons make for an overlooked tension in the family. Siblings are more rivals than friends in the Sheffield's residence, and Carter, forever a happy atmosphere lover, tries to find it outside the house instead, preferring hanging out with his friends to attending family events and gatherings. This is frowned upon by his parents and Carter is often scorned for it by his siblings, which in effect makes him even more distanced from his family.
Since his younger days, his love for Pokemon has always been mainly for the competitive purpose of it, although he does take good care of the first Pokemon he befriended; a Houndoor. He treats Pokemon as battle partners instead of weapons, but not friends; except in Houndoor's case. He was 12 when he first enrolled at Sigma, and limited his Pokemon to only Houndoor for a fairly long period of time, strategically choosing his opponents so Houndoor could battle without fear of being pounded by an impossibly stronger enemy; although his inability to refuse challenges sometimes landed him in nasty losses from stronger students. This continued for two years until Carter finally started to build a proper team, and he started to pick stronger enemies for his new Pokemon, relying on by then an already much stronger Houndoor if the situation looked bleak. Using this system, he managed to climb up the academy with little loss record while increasing his team's strength with a faster pace than when he only had Houndoor.
Because of his picky targeting, he has yet to challenge the two supposedly strongest prefects in the academy. Yet his competitive nature is continuously urging him to do so, and Carter, believing that his team of Pokemon has gotten reliably strong, plans to do just that in the near future.
